Dr. Joseph Biernat holds a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern College of Chiropractic (now re-named Northwestern Health Sciences University) in Bloomington, Minnesota. He completed his undergraduate studies at Iowa Western CC and the University of South Carolina in Columbia where he holds an Associates of Arts degree in math and majored in Biology. He also holds a Bachelors degree from Northwestern in Human Biology. After completing his internship in at Como Chiropractic, Dr. Biernat, DC co-founded Minnesota Joint and Spine in Maplewood in June of 1998. In the spring of 2001, to meet growing demands of his patient base, he opened his satellite office in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. In 2004, he co-founded Spinal Decompression Of Minnesota to provide FDA cleared, non-surgical treatment of herniated and bulged discs. Dr. Biernat, DC also has extensive training in human nutrition and has completed over 200 post doctorate hours in the study of this topic. He also has well over 300 hours of post graduate study has been performed in human biomechanics and musculoskeletal rehabilitation and is considered an expert in the area. Dr. Biernat, DC also has a great knowledge of sports injuries from his time playing college and professional baseball. Including time in the Chicago Cubs minor league system and 2 championship seasons with the St. Paul Saints. He, along with his business partner Dr. Jeff Lavell, DC, have developed a unique multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal injuries by combining the expertise of varied professionals including; personal trainers, massage therapists and chiropractors. Dr. Biernat, DC has also has been granted Associate Clinical Faculty status from Northwestern Health Sciences University and provides for internships to students looking to complete their education in a successful clinical setting. To date, he has personally mentored over 20 students as they have successfully made their way to doctor status. Hobbies include: Family, fishing, scuba diving, hockey. He is married to Michelle and they have one child, Madelyn.
